Brewers first-year reliever Devin Williams has been named the National League Rookie of the Year.
The Baseball Writers Association of America made the announcement Monday afternoon.
The 26-year-old Williams held off Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm and Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth.
Williams allowed just one earned run in 27 innings, striking out exactly half of the 106 batters he faced.
He becomes the first pitcher to ever win Rookie of the Year without making a start or nailing down a save.
Mariners center fielder Kyle Lewis won the American League award.
