WOMT which stands for “World’s Only Mikadow Theatre” first went on the air in Manitowoc 94-years ago today, November 8th, 1926.
During Friday’s segment of Open-Mic, area listeners described the importance of having WOMT in their lives.
“My husband is the person who got me hooked on WOMT 36 years ago…and every morning since, we wake up to WOMT,” One listener stated. “I appreciate the local news, the religious services on Sunday when I can’t make it to church, and I also enjoy the holiday music.”
Another listener said, “I grew up listening to WOMT in my home, and then I ended up just continuing it…My brother, from California, when he comes here, cannot believe that you guys still do local basketball and football games. He says nobody does that in California.”
Francis Kadow founded the radio station 94-years ago and Don Seehafer purchased WOMT and moved his family to Manitowoc in 1970. Mr. Seehafer died in January of this year, but the station remains part of Seehafer Broadcasting to this day.
