Wisconsin’s first large-scale solar facility has begun producing clean energy.
Wisconsin Public Service Spokesman Matt Cullen says, “WPS and its partners are proud to announce that the Two Creeks Solar Park in Manitowoc County is complete and is now providing clean energy to homes across the state. It’s an important part of WPS’s continued commitment to reduce emissions and provide a bright-sustainable future for the customers in communities we serve.”
WPS parent company-WEC Energy Group has committed to make its electric generation fleet net carbon neutral by 2050 and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. Cody Craig, the Asset Manager for WEC Energy Group/Wind and Solar says, “We handle our renewable sites a bit different than our traditional fossil fuel in terms of staffing levels. There will be three individuals at Two Creeks Solar and also a back-office support group that supports all our renewable generation.
Construction began in August of last year with many of the facility’s components-including the half-million solar panels were installed this spring and summer. Two Creeks Solar Park is jointly owned by Madison Gas and Electric. The energy produced at the site will serve customers of both companies with WPS owning 100 of the 150 Mega Watts of capacity. It features 500,000 solar panels across 800 acres and can power more than 33,000 homes.
