Supervisors on the Manitowoc County Board voted 23-2 last night to approve the 2021 County Budget. The only dissenting votes came from Paul Hansen & Rick Henrickson.
County Board Chairman Jim Brey tells SeehaferNews.com he’s very pleased with this budget, stating “County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer has traditionally given the county board a zero percent tax increase budget and that continues and, with the pandemic going on, it’s good to support something like this.”
The county tax rate for next year will be approximately $5.50 per thousand of equalized valuation, which represents over a 3.5% decrease compared to this year. In fact, County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer says the typical county property taxpayer will pay less in county property taxes than ten years ago and he’s proud of that record.
One area that Brey is extremely happy about is they’re able to add to their emergency or “rainy day” fund.
It’s there for emergencies and at the end of 2021 there will be an estimated $2.7-million in the unassigned reserves. And, according to Brey, it also benefits them when they go to borrow money.
Ziegelbauer stated in 2021 they’ll focus on transportation, with an aggressive plan for road maintenance, supporting law enforcement, parks improvements and responding to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis.
