One of the brightest hotspots in the downtown Manitowoc, The Wharf, broke ground on a new 3,120 square foot building on Thursday afternoon. This new structure will upgrade its experimental shipping container setting to a permanent, year-round facility that will include a state-of-the art retractable roof system.
The retractable roof system will allow The Wharf to maintain the same outdoor fun and casual atmosphere while providing coverage over the increased outdoor space to a 4,000 square foot open-air patio. This should prevent events and entertainment to be canceled during inclement weather and will accommodate special event planning such as weddings. Much like it currently does, the outdoor area will include stage and riverside boardwalk/docking area.
Wharf situated along the River in downtown Manitowoc, quickly became a favorite for locals and visitors during the summer months. The “new” Wharf is designed to be open year-round with large pass-thru overhead doors to serve as a fair-weather indoor/outdoor gathering and event space featuring bar area, permanent plumbed restrooms, and food-truck style kitchen featuring ever-changing unique specials. A green space will feature fun yard games.
Owner Brennan Seehafer said, “The Wharf will continue to feature over 50 free live music events a year in addition to ticketed events.”
Construction is being done by Keller Construction and expected to be complete by May 2021, well in advance of the summer 2021 season.
