As hunters continue to head to the woods and collect deer, the DNR is asking those who obtain a plentiful bounty to consider donating venison to food pantries.
According to the DNR, since their Deer Donation Program began in 2000, over 90,000 deer were processed into over 3.7 million pounds of ground venison, which went to people in need.
Hunters who wish to participate need to field dress the animal and register it before bringing it to any of the participating processors.
One of the area processors who is participating is the Howards Grove Meet Market in Sheboygan County’s Deer Park. There are none in Manitowoc County.
