With Veterans Day one week away, many people are wondering if any events are going to be taking place on that day to honor those who have bravely served our country in the armed forces.
According to Manitowoc County Veteran’s Service Officer Todd Brehmer, “We will be having a ceremony out here at Michigan [Avenue] and [North] 18th Street at the Veterans Memorial, like we do every year in Manitowoc City.”
On top of the normal festivities at the memorial, Brehmer explained that they will be honoring those who have donated $1,000 or more to the Eternal Flame Fund.
“We are going to be putting those names on one of the stones here at the Memorial,” he told SeehaferNews.com, “We will continue doing that as we get donations, it’s just we are going to be…unveiling that to the public on Veteran’s Day.”
The program is going to begin at around 10:30 AM, and at 11:00, there will be a 21-gun salute to correspond with the origins of the holiday.
For those who do not know, Veteran’s Day began as Armistice Day, whereas on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, World War 1 was ended with an armistice agreement.
