A 20-year-old man caught spray-painting graffiti on buildings at Madison’s Capitol Squad is accused of using a racial slur against one of the officers taking him into custody.
Khalid Smiri was arrested Sunday morning.
Officers say the Madison man had been writing crude phrases on buildings, a bus shelter, and the pavement.
Some of the phrases called for the murder of police officers. He is accused of repeatedly calling a Black Madison officer a racial epithet and spitting at another officer.
Smiri is facing tentative charges of criminal damage to property, discharge of bodily fluids at a public safety worker, resisting and obstructing.
