In a show of humanity and community, dozens in Appleton were on hand on Sunday for a fundraiser in support of a Navy veteran who was struck by a drunk driver in August.
60-year-old Matt Schipferling was crossing the street in the area of St. Mary’s Church in Menasha with his service dog, when 28-year-old Terrance Driscoll blew through the stop sign, striking Schipferling and his dog Cherokee.
The veteran received cuts and bruises, and the K9 suffered a sprained paw in the incident.
The fundraiser was held at the Grand Meridian with the goal of helping cover the costs of Schipferling’s medical bills.
Driscoll was arrested and is facing three charges.
