
MONDAY
-A restaurant in Green Bay which was under renovation caught fire Sunday morning. The building in the 800 block of Lombardi Avenue was not occupied at the time, and suffered about $250,000 in damage
-The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for a man who allegedly fired his weapon outside of a bar in the Town of Liberty. The intoxicated male suspect was involved in a verbal altercation at the Damn Yankees Watering Hole at around 7:40 Saturday evening, when he decided to fire off a single round from his handgun into the air.
-The Roncalli and Kiel High School Boys Soccer teams are one step closer to claiming a state championship. In the Division 2 tournament, top ranked Roncalli defeated Marinette on Saturday by a score of 6-1, and are now preparing to take on #3 Plymouth at home this Thursday. Meanwhile in D-3, top ranked Kiel defeated #4 Wrightstrown by a score of 2-1. The Raiders will take on St. Lawrence Seminary this Thursday in Kiel.
TUESDAY
-A Manitowoc man is facing his 3rd OWI offense after he allegedly fled from police, and crashed into a parked truck. The 23-year-old man has been charged with his 3rd OWI offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Operation Without Required Lamps, Driving Without a Required Interlock, and Fleeing or Eluding an Officer.
-Manitowoc Police arrested a man last night after an argument between a husband and wife turned physical. The 45-year-old man admitted to slapping his wife, and has been charged with Battery and Disorderly Conduct, both with Domestic Violence Orders, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
-Early next month, Prevea Health will be opening a new testing site at the Brown County Fairgrounds in De Pere. Opening on November 2nd, the site will include a covered, two-lane drive-through, allowing patients to remain in their vehicles during the test collection process and keeping staff and patients safe from the cold, fall and winter elements.
-Ann Rojaz, Family Medicine Nurse practitioner at Prevea Health Manitowoc, says science tells us wearing a mask can help slow the spread of viruses. “Unfortunately it has become a very politicized thing, but what we do know is masks have some effect,” Rojaz said. She did admit it is not a guaranteed safeguard, but explained “What it does is it prevents you from having that higher risk of getting it…It does help.”
WEDNESDAY
-At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday evening, Council Members discussed the residency qualification of Aaron Bailey from District-7 of Manitowoc. An anonymous individual clams that Alderman Bailey does not live at the 7th District residence which he claims to. Alderman Bailey called the investigation racist. -Prevea Health has announced that they are changing the location of the COVID-19 testing site in Sheboygan. They have been testing patients outside their office building at the corner of Saemann Avenue and Taylor Drive, but will be moving to a location in the Southtown Mall on November 16th.
-Children in Manitowoc will have to wait another full calendar year to experience the magic of a trolley ride to the North Poll. Organizers of the annual event announced recently that due to public health concerns they had to cancel the event this year.
-Manitowoc’s Holy Family Primary Care and the Lakeshore Memory Clinic at Felician Village are preparing to reopen their doors. HFM Primary Care at Felician Village is now reopened and accepting appointments, while the Memory Clinic will be back to operational on November 11th.
THURSDAY
-Additional charges have been filed against the 28-year-old man who reportedly stabbed a police officer in late September. Oscar Lemus-Franco was already facing five charges including First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety and Battery to a Law Enforcement Officer, both with Use of a Dangerous Weapon among others. Now he also has been charged with two counts of First Degree Intentional Homicide, and one count of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, all with the Use of a Dangerous Weapon.
-Due to the continued impact of COVID-19, the Manitowoc County Division of Public Health has issued a Public Health Emergency, and are changing the way they do contact tracing. Effective immediately, they will be prioritizing contacting positive cases who are 18 years old and younger first, and then individuals working in high risk settings. Following those will be all other individuals as capacity allows.
-The Manitowoc Public School District approved the 2020-2021 budget at their Board of Education meeting on Tuesday. The budget was set at $81 million for next year, and the tax levy was set at just over $21 million.
-State Senator Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg was honored this week by the Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) with the WCA Outstanding Legislator Award for his work on behalf of county government during the 2019-2020 Legislative Session.
FRIDAY
-The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 29-year-old man who went missing Thursday morning. According to Sheriff Dan Hartwig, they were informed of a missing hunter at around 3:20 yesterday (Thursday) morning in the Collins State Wildlife Area near the Manitowoc River and West Quarry Road in the Town of Rockland.
-Following a day of much better COVID-19 numbers, the Manitowoc County Health Department has reported that five people died yesterday due to the virus. As has been their procedure throughout the pandemic, the Health Department will not be releasing any personal information about the individuals, including their names, ages, or where they lived.
-24 years after the murder of 22-year-old Lisa Holstead, the Green Bay Police Department has made an arrest in the case. 65-year-old Lou Archie Griffin was taken into custody yesterday on a charge of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, and is being held in the Brown County Jail.
-A 33-year-old Manitowoc man, who is accused of making threats against his former employer has been deemed not competent enough to stand trial. Nathaniel Smith allegedly made multiple videos and social media posts threatening the staff at Manitowoc Grey Iron Foundry.
