With Halloween only a few days away, many people may be preparing to host a party to celebrate the holiday. While under normal circumstances this would be perfectly acceptable, with record numbers of COVID-19 cases being reported, and the death toll rising locally, Emergency Services Director Travis Waack says this is not a good idea.
“We really urge people, beg people to cancel those Halloween get togethers and parties,” He said bluntly. “We know that is a big source of transmission.”
As for those who plan to trick-or-treat, Waack suggests that you maintain the 6 feet of social distancing, and to wear masks. The city already said that trick-or-treating will be allowed, but only with people living in the same household.
Waack also says that they have been getting questions about if masks are actually helping quell the spread. Waack explained again that the majority of cases are stemming from private get togethers where people are not wearing masks. He also said, “Masks are doing a great job protecting people in workplace settings, and in public where they are required.”
