After a record setting weekend of positive COVID-19 cases and another 60 positive cases on Monday in the county, Travis Waack, the Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director says area hospitals are feeling the pressure.
“Our hospitals remain strained,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “We have 162 people hospitalized in the 10 northeast Wisconsin hospitals. 64 of those are in the ICU, and we have 28 ICU beds currently available.”
Meanwhile, some are still questioning whether masks are helping slow the spread on the COVID-19 virus. Ann Rojaz, Family Medicine Nurse practitioner at Prevea Health Manitowoc, says science tells us wearing a mask can help slow the spread of viruses.
“Unfortunately it has become a very politicized thing, but what we do know is masks have some effect,” Rojaz said. She did admit it is not a guaranteed safeguard, but explained “What it does is it prevents you from having that higher risk of getting it…It does help.”
