Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical professionals have been very vocal about the importance of wearing masks and remaining socially distant from other to help quell the spread of the virus. Many people have been resistant to following those guidelines, something that has frustrated many in the medical community, including the Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Family Memorial, Tom Veeser.
Vesser says, “You know when when you call somebody up and tell them that they are positive, they may give you a frustrating answer. You see people state that they won’t wear a mask when we know for a fact that it reduces transmission. It’s difficult to understand why during this pandemic we would be resistant to such tactics that work.”
Vesser explained exactly how the social distancing and masks actually help stop the spread.
“You ever see in the sunlight somebody’s particles spray when they are talking? But when you’re in a building you can’t see it? Whether you can or can’t see it, there’s particles spraying when you communicate. We know that the masks helps contains that. It helps the other person not catch it as well. Then the six feet keeps the normal distance of what that spray is when you are communicating.”
Vesser also explained it in very simple terms, “When we monitor people, even if they become positive, if they wear their mask and social distance, they aren’t spreading it to anybody. “
