Multiple sources are reporting the Green Bay Packers will sign veteran linebacker James Burgess Junior off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.
That will give defensive coordinator Mike Pettine some depth at the inside linebacker position while he waits for starter Christian Kirksey to be activated.
Burgess still has to pass COVID-19 protocols before he can be added to the 53-man roster.
The Packers put backup cornerback Parry Nickerson on injured reserve Tuesday, giving them three open roster positions before signing Burgess.
He has started 21 games in the last three seasons and led the New York Jets with 80 combined tackles last year.
