Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels went before the City Council last night to present his 2021 Executive Budget, and there are several major highlights.
The one that will most directly affect the public is a 2.07% property tax decrease. For a $100,000 home, that equates to $17.50 less than they paid in 2020.
Over $10 million has been set aside for a variety of improvement projects with over $6 million going to roads, $1.5 million for downtown improvements, and $3.3 million is slotted for the infrastructure on the River Point District, formerly known as the CN Peninsula.
Notable in the road repairs was $390,000 from the general fund is slotted to repair the section of Washington Street between South 15th and 18th Streets.
According to a statement from Mayor Nickels, “The overall city debt will continue to decrease (to under $50 million compared to $76 million in 2010) and the unassigned fund balance will have around $5.3 million (versus $16,981 in 2010).”
