A motorcycle club in Manitowoc County has made a generous donation to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department’s K9 Unit.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig told SeehaferNews.com that they applied for a grant from the Ant Hill Mob Club for their K9 program, and recently were told that they were the recipients of what the Sheriff termed, “a very very generous donation of $13,000 to the K9 program.”
The donation from the Ant Hill Mob, who create and promote motorcycle related events to generate funds for charitable causes, will be going toward getting another dog for the Sheriff’s Department, which Sheriff Hartwig says they are looking to purchase next year.
While the $13,000 is a great step toward that new dog, it is just a little short of covering the full expense. Sheriff Hartwig explained that a new K9 costs about $14,000 after the purchase of the dog and the extensive training. It may be a large expense, but as Hartwig said, they get 5-10 years out of each K9 they employ.
Hartwig explained that the K9s help them with everything from handler protection, searching for lost children and drug situation.
