Earlier this week, the Manitowoc County Health Department announced that the Wisconsin National Guard will be setting up a Community Testing Site in the Count Expo Center.
We spoke with Emergency Services Director Travis Waack about it and asked if they requested the National Guard or if they were simply coming because of the high rate of infection.
He said it was a combination of them wanting the make their schedules a little less sporadic, and the fact that Manitowoc County is currently a COVID hotspot.
Waack said that the hospitals are still doing testing, but they decided that it was a good idea to give people as many opportunities to get tested as possible.
While this is a great opportunity, Waack said this is not a replacement for getting tested at a hospital, and if you are feeling any symptoms, you should get tested right away, instead of waiting for the National Guard to arrive.
The National Guard will start testing at that site on October 20th and will return every other week through December 1st.
You can pre-register to get tested at CovidConnect.wi.gov.
