The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department is asking its highest-paid employees to extend a voluntary pay cut.
Two dozen – including football coach Paul Chryst, basketball coach Greg Gard, and athletic director Barry Alvarez — agreed to a 15% pay cut in May, lasting through October.
Now, the department wants to extend the pay reduction through late February. With a contract worth more than $4.2 million, Chryst will give up more than $400,000 from his paycheck – if the reduction isn’t extended again.
The coronavirus pandemic is expected to create losses of $60 to $70 million.
