The U.S. Department of Justice now has an eye on Green Bay as they are amid a surge in gun violence cases.
So far this year, there have been 5 murders in the city, with an additional 56 shooting cases.
A majority of those cases are between people who know each other and are mostly driven by drugs or arguments.
These numbers caught the attention of U.S. Attorney Matthew Krueger, who prosecutes federal cases in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
He spoke with Police Chief Andrew Smith recently about the issue and offered to be a partner to leverage the federal, state and local resources to curb the trend.
