According to the Wisconsin DOT, we are currently in the midst of the peak time for deer vs vehicle crashes.
It’s the time of year when the animals are actively looking for a mate, so they tend to travel more and cross more roads in the process.
DOT stats show that in the state last year 18,414 such accidents occurred, 556 of which resulted in injuries to the motorists, and 9 of which ended in fatality. It should be noted that of those fatalities, 6 involved motorcycles.
Officials recommend that drivers slow down, buckle up, and keep an eye on the side of the road especially at dawn and dusk.
