The 32nd Annual Lakeshore Holiday Parade in downtown Manitowoc has been cancelled for 2020. Mayor Justin Nickels announced today (Monday) that primarily due to public health concerns surrounding Covid-19 and the daily increasing positive cases in Manitowoc County that it’s in the best interest of all involved to cancel the lakeshore tradition for this year.
“The Lakeshore Holiday Parade Committee and I had to take into consideration many factors when making a decision like this; the safety of the public is first and foremost, but there are also parade participants who put a fair amount of money and time into their entries, so to cancel this last minute – it wouldn’t be a good position to put them in logistically or financially.”
Nickels also cited fewer registrations, lower volunteer numbers, and other communities in Northeast Wisconsin cancelling their holiday parades as reasons for the decision to cancel this year’s event.
