Mishicot FFA chapter member Sam Anhalt won first place in the FFA Essay Contest.
Sam wrote about Jamie Propson, her agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, who has encouraged Sam to explore her passions. For her winning essay the Mishicot FFA chapter received $7,500 from Culver’s to help fund agriculture education projects and experiential learning opportunities. “Reading all these essays about inspiring women farmers, teachers and scientists was a great way to celebrate all that women have contributed to the agricultural industry,” said Jessie Kreke, Culver’s senior marketing manager. “As these FFA members prepare to become our country’s future agricultural leaders, it’s clear they have great role models to help them along the way.” The excerpt that follows is from Sam’s winning essay, which was selected by Culver’s and the National FFA Organization.
“Mrs. Propson passed a piece of her floriculture passion onto me. It has grown inside of me so much, causing me to share my passion and knowledge with other people who surround me. Her passion for each area of agriculture influences me to continue to explore and to learn more about the multiple areas so that I have a better understanding of the world around me.”
The essay contest is part of Culver’s Thank You Farmers® Project, which works to ensure the future of our nation’s food supply by supporting agricultural education programs that encourage smart farming.
To date, the initiative has raised over $2.5 million in support of the National FFA Organization, local FFA chapters and a variety of local agricultural organizations.
