In an effort to be more efficient and eliminate confusion that results from different reporting periods being used in tracking COVID 19, the Manitowoc County Health Department has aligned its reporting period with the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services daily report.
Emergency Services Director Travis Waack says cases have always been reported for the previous 24 hours but the State and County used different cutoff times to define when that 24-hour period began and ended.
Waack adds the County traditionally used a reporting period that went much later into the current day, the state conversely much earlier daily.
This adjustment will also allow the County to automatically pull data from the Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance System freeing up staff to provide more essential public health functions such as notifications to positive cases and conducting outbreak investigations.
