A Marinette County judge stayed a three-year prison sentence and ordered Paula Bergold to continue her mental health counseling.
Judge James Morrison sentenced Bergold to seven years on probation for failing to report her mother’s death.
The 61-year-old Bergold had entered a no-contest plea to a charge of hiding a corpse.
A neighbor called authorities last September to say she hadn’t seen 89-year-old Ruby Bergold for four months.
When Peshtigo Police visited the home a second time, the woman’s body was found in a tub covered with plastic.
Paula Bergold told investigators she had found her mother’s body in a chair, but couldn’t bring herself to report her death.
