
A 29-year-old Manitowoc man is free on a $15,000 recognizance bond and is facing charges for allegedly firing a handgun off his back porch.
John V. Boutwell is charged with Reckless Endangerment-Neglect of a Child and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a person under the age of 18.
Police were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Clark Street Saturday for a report of shots fired. Officers-with help of witnesses-were able to narrow a location to the 800 block of South 21st. Â
Boutwell admitted drinking several shots of alcohol prior to firing his weapon in the presence of a younger child-who began crying inside the residence as the gun was being discharged.
Police said an older child also reportedly fired the weapon before officers’ arrival.
No injuries resulted.
Conditions of bail include that Boutwell possess no weapons and maintain sobriety. His initial appearance is scheduled for October 12th at 1:30 p.m.
