
MONDAY
-The Two Rivers City Council now has two offers to purchase the former Paragon Partners property. On top of the previously released Enlight Group II LLC proposal, AIM Manitowoc LLC has also thrown a bid into the ring. The Council is looking at both offers.
– An investigation in underway for an armed robbery incident which occurred over the weekend at the Minit (MINUTE) Mart on Geele Avenue in Sheboygan. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 20’s, standing between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10” tall, with an average build. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Sheboygan Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
– One person is dead and three others are displaced following a house fire in Green Bay on Saturday. Reports indicate that the Green Bay Metro Fire Department was called to the home in the 800 block of Harrison Street at 3:10 PM and were able to extinguish the blaze in around 10 minutes. One person was found in the home unresponsive, and was taken to a local hospital, where they later died.
– In what is turning out to be their biggest fundraiser this year, Ascend Services in Manitowoc is getting ready for their annual 5K Walk/Run. The event will be taking place both in person and virtually on September 10th. More information can be found at AscendServicesInc.org.
TUESDAY
– The Green Bay Police Department has made an arrest in the suspicious death which occurred last night. As we previously reported, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Clement Street just after 8:30 PM on a report of gunshots. Two unidentified men were found deceased in the home. – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Manitowoc County continues to rise at an alarming rate, and the people are calling for action. People have taken to Facebook to voice their displeasure, with one person stating, “I would like to see the County leaders take action to reduce the spread of this disease.” Others are not so keen on that option, with one saying, “Unless all of you plan on paying everyone’s bills, mortgage, food, I would stop asking for a shutdown.”
– Business is good for the largest sausage company in Sheboygan County. Johnsonville has announced that they have purchased a 200,000 square foot facility to expand their operations. Johnsonville officials stated that their new location will be used to expand cooking innovations and increase production of its fully cooked sausage products.
-State Senator Devin LeMahieu says that halfway through the two year state budget, they are still have a $200 million surplus. He told SeehaferNews.com this is “better than pretty much all of our neighboring states. Illinois is looking to borrow $5 billion to cover their deficit, and other states are thinking about budget repair bills because they are in the red.”
WEDNESDAY
– Another individual has died in Manitowoc County in connection to COVID-19. Personal information of this latest fatality will not be formally released by the County Health Department. This brings the pandemic long total number of deaths in Manitowoc County linked to COVID-19 up to 4.
– Bank First announces their support of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA with a $10,000 donation to the local organization. A news release states that the local financial institution desired to make a concerted effort to give back to the Y during these challenging times by sponsoring membership dues for low to moderate-income households and provide funding for various programs.
– Mayor Justin Nickels says construction has begun on Bay Care Clinic’s new 46,000 square foot facility across from the Waldo Boulevard/Maritime Drive roundabout. Clinic officials say the new center “will meet growing demand for local, specialized health care services.” The Bay Care Clinic’s new building is expected to be completed by September, 2021.
– Police reports indicate that a 14-year-old boy was among a group of teens that were crossing South Business Drive in front of the Kiwk Trip at around 7:00 PM on Monday when he was struck by a car. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which don’t appear to be very serious.
THURSDAY
– The identity of the man who allegedly killed two people and stabbed an officer Monday night has been released. Five charges have been filed against 28-year-old Oscar Lemus-Franco, including First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (Use of a Dangerous Weapon), Mayhem (Use of a Dangerous Weapon), Battery to a Law Enforcement Officer (Use of a Dangerous Weapon), Knowingly Flee/Elude or Attempt to Flee/Elude an Officer, and Obstructing an Officer.
– A 27-year old Green Bay woman was killed late Wednesday afternoon in the Brown County Town of Scott. The unnamed woman was ejected from her vehicle after it went into the ditch and flipped while driving north on Nicolet Drive. She died at the scene.
– Throughout the month of October, the Prevea Manitowoc Health Center located at 4810 Expo Dr. in Manitowoc will be lit pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Prevea Health suggests all women talk with their health care provider about the appropriate timing for screening mammograms, especially women who are age 40 or at high-risk. – Ascend Services, Inc. has announced its participation in National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual awareness campaign that takes place each October. Ascend Services will be engaging in a social media campaign to educate the community on disability employment issues and its commitment to an inclusive work culture. FRIDAY
– A Manitowoc man was arrested yesterday for a burglary that took place at a northside residence back in late August. He told the Detective that he stole the items because he disliked his neighbors because they were evicting him. He is now facing charges of Burglary, Entering a Locked Coin Box, and four counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
– For many across Wisconsin, the COVID-19 pandemic has left them without a job, and that trend was seen locally as well. SeehaferNews.com spoke with Senator Devin LeMahieu recently, and he said the unemployment rate is decreasing at a steady rate. – The two men who were shot and killed in Green Bay Monday night have been identified by their families. 30-year-old Jaime Lemus and 37-year-old Gerson Alvarez-Franco both died in the shooting police believe was perpetrated by 28-year-old Oscar Lemus Franco.
-The Department of Natural Resources is reminding all hunters that harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5 p.m. the day after the deer is recovered.
