All public schools in Manitowoc will be going full virtual as of October 12th. Superintendent Mark Holzman sent a letter to district families and staff last evening announcing the change from a blended pattern to full distance learning. He cited the recent significant spike in coronavirus cases in the region.
As of Friday, the district reported 40 total cases, including 25 at Lincoln High School, three each at Franklin Elementary and Washington Middle schools, two each at Jackson, Madison and Riverview Elementary schools, and one each at Jefferson Elementary, Stangel Learning academy and at another MPSD building. Monroe Elementary and Wilson Middle schools had reported no cases as of Friday.
Schools had opened with a blended pattern of in-person and virtual learning, but the district had warned that changes might be needed if the disease worsened.
