Throughout the month of October, the Prevea Manitowoc Health Center located at 4810 Expo Dr. in Manitowoc will be lit pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
About 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. The disease remains the most common cancer among women, except for skin cancers.
While there is now perfect way to prevent breast cancer, Prevea Health recommends women do the following to help reduce their risk. Check for lumps and changes in the breast, maintain a healthy weight, remain physically active, limit or avoid alcohol, and be sure to include fruits and vegetables in your diet.
In addition, all women should talk with their health care provider about the appropriate timing for screening mammograms, especially women who are age 40 or at high-risk.
