A 50-year-old Manitowoc man is facing five charges after he allegedly beat his daughter’s friend and pushed her down the stairs.
Officers responded to a call about a fight in the 900 block of South 18th Street at around 7:45 pm Wednesday evening, and spoke with the victim and the suspect’s daughter. They both said that the victim had given the suspect some jewelry to clean, and the victim found some of it missing after it was returned.
She went to the daughter’s home, where the suspect was staying, to confront him about the missing jewelry. He claimed he didn’t have it, but the victim saw it on the floor in his bedroom.
A verbal altercation ensued but escalated when the suspect began to strike the female victim. She reportedly grabbed a hammer in self-defense but according to the witness, she only used it once.
The fight continued, and the victim was reportedly pushed down a flight of stairs, where she received injuries that required medical attention. The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived.
The officers collected evidence, including drug paraphernalia from the suspect’s room, and left the scene.
Later that night the witness called the Police Department to inform them that her father had reached out to her to meet. The officers set up a sting operation, and when they saw him, announced that he was under arrest. The suspect fled on foot for a short distance but did give himself up without incident.
He is now facing charges of Battery, Resisting, or Obstructing an Officer, Carrying a Concealed Knife, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine.
