As the days go on, certain trends become easier to see when it comes to COVID-19.
Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack told SeehaferNews.com that people have been asking if the current trend of a much high case count is the “second wave” of the virus. He explained that history will determine that for certain.
“What this very likely is, is what we have been warning about, in that we would see an increase in cases again in fall. That was referred to as the ‘Second Wave’,” Waack explained. “We are seeing those cases. School is back in session, of course more close contact there. The weather is getting colder. People are starting to gather indoors more, which is of course more conducive to spread.”
Another trend that has shifted a little is that more older people have now contracted the virus than the younger groups. Waack says that has been the case nationwide as “...younger people will get it and then spread it to parents and grandparents. You see an increase in cases with young people, then it will shift to an increase in cases in older people. It will probably shift back and forth into other age demographics as well.”
The recovery numbers should start to rise soon, as the Manitowoc County Health Department only lists someone as fully recovered once 30 days have passed since contracting the virus. Through September, only 225 recoveries have been reported, while the case total increased by 686 cases.
