The Milwaukee Brewers are in Los Angeles preparing for Wednesday night’s playoff opener at Dodger Stadium. The Brewers face the National League’s top seed in the best-of-three Wild Card series.
Outfielder Christian Yelich said the Dodgers “are the favorites for what they’ve done in the regular season and they’re a great team, no doubt, but we’ve got a chance.”
L-A named Walker Buehler (BYOO’-lur) as the Game 1 starter and Clayton Kershaw will take the mound Thursday, however, the Brewers haven’t named their starting pitchers.
Brandon Woodruff threw eight scoreless innings Saturday in St. Louis, Brett Anderson left Sunday’s season finale with a blister, and Josh Lindbloom pitched the nightcap of Friday’s doubleheader. Left-hander Brett Suter could get the start out of the bullpen.
Playoff merchandise is now on sale at the team store at Miller Park and online. The shop opened early Monday with fans waiting to get new postseason gear including a t-shirt that says “Respect Milwaukee.”
The Crew’s clubhouse postseason cap is one of the most popular items.
The Brewers are in the playoffs for a franchise-best third season in a row. Officials say new items will be arriving every day.
In other Brewers news, Major League Baseball is honoring reliever Devin Williams for his performance in September.
Williams was named National League Reliever of the Month on Monday.
He appeared in nine games and allowed no runs over 13 innings with 24 strikeouts. Williams is also a candidate to N-L Reliever of the Year. The 26-year-old Williams also had a 4-1 record and 0.33 E-R-A.
