Over the last month or so Manitowoc County has seen a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, and according to Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack, there has also been a shift in who is contracting the virus.
During his COVID-19 Update this morning, he told SeehafeNews.com that school age children are testing positive for the coronavirus at a much higher rate.
“Really since about the middle of September, we have seen a shift toward the school age population,” Waack said. “Actually, in the last two days, 10 each of those two days were in that school age demographic.”
Waack said one of the major concerns with that trend is, “that they may bring that home to parents and grandparents.”
Based on the average number of new COVID-19 cases each day over the past few weeks, it appears as if Manitowoc County will be surpassing 1,000 total cases in this afternoon’s report by the Manitowoc County Health Department.
