The former Save-A-Lot building located at 1817 North 8th Street in Sheboygan will now be the home of the Senior Activity Center.
The City of Sheboygan purchased the building after starting their strategic planning for relocating the Senior Center last year. Estimates state that the senior population in the city is expected to grow by as much as 72% by 2040, and the new building offers more space.
The move was also initiated due to an outdated and failing HVAC system discovered in the old building along with a failing roof.
The 30,000 square foot facility will not only be refurbished to fit the current needs of the Senior Activity Center, but it will also be done up in a way that future expansions can be done with little trouble.
The move is expected to be completed yearly next year.
