During his COVID-19 updates yesterday on WOMT and WCUB Radio, Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack voiced his concern over the spike in hospitalization rates due to COVID-19.
Waack said that in the 10 hospitals in the Northeast Wisconsin Region, “We currently have 66 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. That’s up 22 in the last week. 20 of those are in the ICU, and that number is up 8 in the last week.”
Waack also explained that there are only 35 ICU beds available in the region, which is also down from last week. This is concerning because, “We saw that available ICU bed count go from about 60 down to about 35.”
He called the near 50% cut in available beds “scary”.
