This week is Farm Safety Week.
According to the Wisconsin Farm Related Fatality Report, 41 farmers died on the job in 2017, and 34 more died in 2018. A significant number of those deaths came on public roadways, 29% in 2018 to be specific.
Other notable causes included fires, falls, blunt force trauma, and machine entanglements.
American Family Insurance has issued a few tips to help farmers remain safe while supplying food and milk for the state and nation.
Seeing as traffic accidents account for such a large percentage of deaths and injuries, American Family Insurance encourages operators to have as few people on the machine as possible. Most tractors have one seat, so there should only be one person on the tractor while it is use.
Seatbelt use is also encouraged.
