A Milwaukee man will be spending 16 years behind bars after being convicted in a 2017 shooting incident in Appleton.
36-year-old Henry Nellum will also have 10 years of extended supervision following his release.
The incident occurred on May 20th, 2017 inside Jack’s Apple Pub in Appleton, where Nellum got into a fight with another man. Nellum allegedly pulled a gun on the man and it went off.
LT Jay Steinke then entered the bar with his weapon drawn. Nellum reportedly moved toward the Lt with the gun in his hand, leading to Lt Steinke opening fire. He ended up striking Jimmie Montell Sanders, who was not involved in the altercation.
Sanders later died from his injuries.
The Green Bay Police Department conducted an investigation and determined that Steinke was justified in his actions, while Nellum was arrested.
