Now that school is back in session, the School Resource Officers in the Manitowoc Police Department are back as well.
Part of their responsibilities to help the school, they serve perform one of the five standardized responses put in place by the I Love U Guys Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol, which the MPSD has implemented.
One of these responses are practiced every month. Also, the officers are responsible for working in conjunction with MPSD Administration and staff to provide a safe learning environment for everyone. Part of that is teaching D.A.R.E, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education in the elementary and middle schools, which is being done by Officer Paul Krock and Officer Michael Laabs. While officers were called for service 538 times last year, a report from Chief Nick Reimer says “Overall, the students of our community are well mannered, well educated, and traveling down the road for success.”
