
MONDAY
– The Manitowoc Police Department have released the name of the person facing charges for putting a racist note on a car in the Walmart parking lot last Friday. Cathleen A. Yauch is facing charges of Making a Terroristic Threat with a Hate Crime Enhancer, as well as three counts of Bail Jumping, two felony and one misdemeanor.
– A 67-year-old man was taken to the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton with serious injuries after a motorcycle vs SUV crash on Sunday in Sheboygan County. The man from West Allis reportedly performed a U-turn in front of the SUV driven by a 57-year-old Phelps woman.
– Prevea Health and the HSHS System Hospitals are encouraging community members to get their flu shot as the flu season approaches amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. – The S.S. Badger Car Ferry is ending its 2020 sailing season two weeks early. A post on their Facebook page states that due to low projected ridership volumes the daily trip between Manitowoc and Ludington Michigan will end Sunday September 27th-two weeks earlier than the original end date of October 11th.
– Manitowoc Police are asking for the public’s assistance to locate an armed robbery suspect. The robbery occurred at a business in the 100 block of Maritime Drive Monday morning at around 2:50 AM. The male suspect displayed a weapon and demanded cash. Anyone with any information is encouraged to Call Crime Stoppers at 683-4466 where you can choose to remain anonymous or report the information through the MPD’s P3 app.
TUESDAY
-UW Green Bay announced that they have seen a 3.3% rise in student enrollment this year. In their branch schools, UWGB-Manitowoc reported a 23.6% jump, while UWGB-Sheboygan saw a 31% rise. The UWGB increase marks the fifth consecutive year of growth for the University.
– Carron Net out of Two Rivers has been nominated for the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin competition. The annual competition aims to highlight the state’s vibrant manufacturing industry kicked off their 2020 iteration and voting for the first round is now open. Voting is done at MadeInWis.com.
– Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels’ office is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 Mayor’s Youth Action Council, which is under his direct supervision. All the details and the application can be found on the City of Manitowoc website at Manitowoc.org/MYAC. The deadline to apply is September 30th, 2020.

– A Manitowoc woman is facing charges after allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend with a frying pan. The suspect, a 23-year-old woman, admitted to police that she threw shoes and a frying pan at her ex-boyfrined, and is facing two charges of Disorderly Conduct, one with a Domestic Violence Order, and a Probation Hold. WEDNESDAY
-The Manitowoc and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Offices are investigating the death of an inmate in the Manitowoc County Jail. A Manitowoc County Correctional Officer noticed 36-year-old Justin Hall laying in an awkward position, unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. No additional details are available at this time.
– The DNR is reporting that deer in that area have been found to have PFAS in their system. PFAS, or polyfluoroalkyl (poly-flew-row-al-kill) substances, are man-made chemicals used in a variety of non-stick products such as fire-fighting foam, and can increase cancer risk, affect growth, learning, and women’s fertility in humans.
– The Manitowoc County Public Works Department has announced the dates for the 2020 iterations of the Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep program. On Saturday October 24th, residents will be able to dispose of any pesticides, cleaning products, oil and lead based paints, automotive chemicals and mercury at the recycling center. -The Manitowoc Public School District confirmed two more cases of COVID-19 within the District. Both were at Lincoln High School. The first case in the District was reported at Franklin Elementary School Last Thursday.
THURSDAY
– Students in grades 5 through 8 in the Sheboygan Falls School District will now be studying from home due to COVID-19, at least for now. The School District decided to send those grades into a virtual model through September 30th after noticing an increase in absences over the past week. Those absences were due to contact tracing being done for people who were confirmed to have contracted the virus.
– 21-year-old Appleton resident Kyle Komp has plead not guilty to charges related to an August incident. On August 14th, officers were sent to several residences for disturbances involving Komp, who was also found to be housing numerous animals including a crocodile, two snakes, a scorpion, and various smaller animals. The animals were taken from his residence due to concerns over their wellbeing.
– The Manitowoc County Ethics Board dissmissed a complaint filed by Supervisor Don Zimmer against the Board Chair Jim Brey. The Ethics Board says Brey ““did not harass, intimidate or retaliate” against Zimmer.
-Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack says the 10 hospitals in the Northeast Wisconsin Region are doing rather well. “We have 44 hospitalized patients with COVID-19, 12 of those patients are in the ICU,” Waack explained. “That is a jump of about 10 patients in the hospital over the past week, but capacity still looks good with 43 ICU beds immediately available.”
FRIDAY
– Students, teachers, and staff at Bay Port High School are in mourning as a teacher at the school has died after being hospitalized with COVID-19. Heidi Hussl died Thursday morning, however it is not known if there were other health issues that contributed to her death.
– The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is tracking chronic wasting disease in the state and are asking for hunters to help them. Any hunter who snags a deer is asked to turn in the head of the animal at any of their kiosk locations. – A year and a half after ground was broken, Redline Plastics is nearly ready to unveil their new manufacturing facility to the world. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility located in the I-43 Technology and Enterprise Campus will take place October 1st at 9:00 AM, with limited attendants.
COVID-19 Recap
-A total of 140 new cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Manitowoc County Health Department between Friday September 11th and Thursday September 18th.
-62 patients were added to the recovered column, while 346 negative test results were reported.
-28.8% of all tests reported this week came back positive.
-Saturday marks the 50 day mark since the start of the Mask Mandate issued by Governor Tony Evers.
