A meeting has been scheduled for today in Green Bay for the Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Department to discuss acquiring body cameras. The reason they are considering the proposal again is because both departments have gotten support form the Green Bay Packer Organization to do so.
As we have reported before, body cameras are expensive. Not only for the upfront cost of purchasing the physical equipment, there is also the computer space to store hundreds of hours of video a week, and the manpower to scour those videos in the case of an incident.
The support voiced by Packer President and CEO Mark Murphy, and Quarterback Aaron Rodgers would likely go a long way toward outfitting all police in the city with body cameras.
Body cameras not only ensure proper conduct by the police, but they also can prove that the police acted within their rights. Such was the case with Officer Bryan Pray in Sheboygan who, thanks to his body camera footage, was found to not be at fault in the shooting death of 32-year-old Kevin Ruffin on July 2nd.
