
TUESDAY
-A 32-year-old Two Rivers man was identified as the driver of a truck which careened down the cliff on Lakeside Boulevard in Manitowoc last Friday. Lt. Mark Schroeder told SeehaferNews.com that he fled the scene and was found the following day. More details can be found by clicking here.
-A section of South 29th Street in Manitowoc is scheduled to be closed through October 31st. Crews are replacing underground utilities and reconstructing the street between Meadow Lane and Coolidge Place.
-The Manitowoc City Council Finance Committee is looking for someone to fill a vacant 5-year term on the Manitowoc Public Utilities Commission. Those interested should submit a letter of interest and short resume to the City Clerk’s Office. More details can be found by clicking here.
-State Representative and Manitowoc resident Paul Tittl was recently honored by Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. He received a “Working for Wisconsin” award, along with 81 of his colleagues in State Government.
WEDNESDAY
-The routine maintenance that was scheduled for this week on the Point Beach Nuclear Plant sirens was postponed until the week of September 21st. The postponement was due to staffing issues with the vendor.
-Lakeshore Technical College has expanded their child care program. They will now watch over student’s children up to 12-year-old while they are in class. For more information on LTC’s child care program, go to gotoltc.edu/current-students/general-campus-information/child-care.
– A Green Bay man has pleaded no contest to a charge of Reckless Homicide in the death of his 23-day-old son. The son of 33-year-old Jeremiah Thomas was found unresponsive in his apartment on January 22nd, 2018, with two skull fractures, breaks in 10 of his 12 ribs, and breaks in both his legs. Thomas will be back in court on November 23rd for sentencing.
-The City of Manitowoc was approved for three Community Development Block Grants. Nearly $2.5 million will be used for the reconstruction of Custer Street, a little more than $1.6 million for South 30th Street reconstruction, and just over $576,000 for the construction of an ADA accessible elevator. THURSDAY
-According to stats from the Manitowoc County Health Department, there was a 50% increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases in the 40 days after the mask mandate went into effect than there were the 40 day prior to it. Also, the average number of cases per day rose from 5.7 prior to 8.5 per day after.
– The Capitol Civic Center has announced the initiation of the Capitol Centennial Society. Executive Director PJ Albert explains that funds raised through the program “these funds will help with overhead expenses and facility operations with the remaining portion used towards what this anniversary may be like in June of next year.” More details can be found by clicking here.
-A Manitowoc woman gave away 100 bags filled with school supplies yesterday. Arlanda Ross said she wanted to help because “Not everybody is able to afford school supplies” and wanted to contribute. She got help from some private donators, and funds from friends to help make it happen.
FRIDAY
– A total of seven people were arrested in Sheboygan on drug trafficking charges recently. These arrests happened as a result of a coordinated effort by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Milwaukee and Grand Chute Police Departments, among many others. – A Sheboygan man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly attempted to incite riots and looting on Facebook. 22-year-old Shawn D. King posted the threats shortly after the shooting of Kevan Ruffin Jr on July 2nd. King is facing charges of Making a Terrorist Threat and Disorderly Conduct.
-The Newton First Responders held their 32nd Annual Fish Boil on Friday. From 4:00 to 8:00 PM they fed lines of cars, and raised money so they could continue to help people in the area. Normally, they have a buffet-line set up and people could select what they wanted, but now it’s totally a drive-thru.
