According to Manitowoc Public School Superintendent Mark Holzman, both students and staff are excited about being back in a blended face to face model for the start of the school year.
Holzman tells SeehaferNews.com things are going well through the first week. “We’ve got over 1,000 kids who are coming back to school virtually,” he explained. “Our protocols are going great. We are taking temperatures before school, parents have been very supportive in following the protocols, our students are wearing masks.”
Holzman explained the hybrid models in place for K-thru-12 in the MPSD sees the K-5th Grade students are “meeting half days four days a week Monday through Thursday. Middle school kids are meeting in their cohorts 3 days a week (1/3rd 6th grade, 1/3rd 7th grade, and 1/3rd 8th grade), and our high school kids are meeting in four different cohorts (Monday AM, Monday PM, Tuesday AM, and Tuesday PM).”
The administrator says they’re keeping class sizes smaller to support social distancing for students and staff members. Additionally, the district has some of their support-staff helping mid-day with cleaning and disinfecting at the elementary and high schools, and they’ve added personnel to make that happen.
