Brown County was recently awarded $40.8 million from the state to construct a Juvenile Detention Center, but before the project begins, Brown County officials want some questions answered.
This project is one part of the states plan to close the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake youth prisons, which must by law be shut down by next July, but the state has not made clear how they plan on paying for the new center, or where they plan to build a new type-1 facility for more serous offenders.
Brown County officials sent a letter to the state voicing their concerns, stating they will not accept the money until they are addressed.
