
Wisconsin lawmakers passed no laws on police reform in a special session Monday that lasted about 30 seconds.
The session was then recessed until Thursday.
Democratic State Representative Sheila Stubbs of Madison says, “Leaders have long overlooked the systemic injustices in our policing system,” adding, “They failed us.”
Community leaders and the Black Legislative Caucus have said the time for listening is done – and now it’s time for action.
The bill Governor Tony Evers wanted lawmakers to take up included a ban on no-knock warrants and chokeholds, and would have created statewide use-of-force standards.
