Two local representatives in various levels of government have voiced their opinions on what is happening in Kenosha.
9th district republican senator Devin LeMahieu said assumptions were made about the incident long before the investigation has been completed.
“Unlike our Governor, who seemed jumped to conclusions and almost pour gas on the fire, I think we need to wait until the investigation is complete to see what actually happened,” He told SeehaferNews.com. “Unfortunately, it took the Governor until Wednesday night to actually accept the assistance from the Federal Government and somewhat restore order in Kenosha.”
Senator LeMahieu also said Governor Tony Evers’ opinion that President Trump should not visit the strife-torn city ”Baffles my mind…That’s what our President is supposed to be doing.” LeMahieu noted that the President could help via a State of Emergency order, or other options.
Meanwhile, 7th District Alderman for the City of Manitowoc Aaron Bailey said the whole situation doesn’t “feel like it’s for the people. It just feels like it is for politics.”
Bailey, who was actually in Kenosha last week during the protests, says that he sides with Governor Tony Evers in thinking that President Donald Trump visiting Kenosha 9 days after the shooting of Jacob Blake is a safety issue.
“I think the Governor is looking out for more the safety aspect of it because we just had the 17-year-old kid shoot somebody, so you are adding more gasoline to the fire,” Bailey said.
He noted President Trump’s affinity to “say whatever he wants” and that he “ doesn’t care who depicts what side, he just says what he feels.”
Bailey noted that he and several other Manitowoc residents were only in Kenosha to “see how everything developed”, not to contribute to the violence.
He also condemned the rioters who burned down businesses and caused chaos.
