President Donald Trump visited Kenosha today and said the community has been hit hard by “anti-police and anti-American riots.”
He told local officials “this is going to heal very quickly.” His stop comes less than a week after Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer. President Trump said the shooting is under investigation and “I actually suggested we handle it locally.” The president noted that “there are bad apples within law enforcement that will be taken care of through the system.”
Trump said he met with Blake’s pastor and was going to speak with his mother until he heard lawyers would be involved. Trump claimed that bringing in the National Guard and federal agents ended the violence in Kenosha within an hour.
The President also said $1 million would be available for Kenosha law enforcement and $4 million for the affected small businesses in Kenosha to repair the damage caused by the riots last week.
