For the first time since being shutdown in March, the smell of popcorn filled the air at the AMC Movie Theater in Manitowoc, but it was not for their grand re-opening.
29-year-old Danny Kochan, a self-described mega-fan of DC Comics, Marvel, and an avid moviegoer is living with the genetic disease known as Ataxia-Telangiectasia, which causes loss of muscle control, immune system, and a high rate of cancer.
We spoke with Charmaine Conrad, the Director of Development and Communications at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice who explained that they are 
caring for Danny at end of life, and “His one wish was to see a movie one last time in the theater. Our team heard about that, thought that was awesome…and through many different community partners, including the AMC, Stardust Limo, and the Capitol Civic Center, who donated their red carpet, we were able to grant this wish for Danny and his family.”
Being a resident of Kellnersville, Danny would frequent the AMC in Manitowoc to see as many movies as he could. Danny’s nurse, Jeremy Fessler, spoke highly of Danny, highlighting his positive attitude. “He is in really high spirits,” Fessler said. “He’s willing to put a smile on your face.”
Danny was picked up at his house in a limo, provided by Stardust Limousine out of Kiel, and was surprised by 20 or so people lining a red carpet, which was laid in the lobby for him as members of the media snapped his picture and filmed his “Red Carpet Moment”.
Danny said that he was very surprised when he got to the AMC theater. “When they first showed up with the limo at my house, I thought that was it, but then we got here, and all the people, and the red carpet…I wasn’t expecting that,” he said cheerfully.
With a smile from ear to ear, Danny told SeehaferNews.com that his favorite movie theater snack is the pretzel bites, specifically off the Parmesan variety, with some nacho cheese, which he got before going into the main theater to see “The New Mutants”.
Manitowoc’s AMC Theater is scheduled to re-open this Thursday to the public.
