The White House says President Donald Trump will travel to Kenosha Tuesday for meetings with law enforcement officials and to survey damage caused by rioting.
Democrats have asked the president to stay away, including Governor Tony Evers.
It has been more than a week of protests in the southeastern Wisconsin city after a police officer shot 29-year-old Jacob Blake.
The president praised the federal presence in Wisconsin Saturday, giving it credit for bringing the violence under control.
Last week’s Republican National Convention focused a lot of attention on violence and property damage caused by protests over racial injustice and police brutality this summer.
Meanwhile, U-S Senator Ron Johnson calls violence amid protests in Kenosha a “siege.”
He condemned the killing of two protesters by a teenager during a Sunday appearance on C-N-N’s “State of the Union” show.
The Wisconsin Republican says he doesn’t want to see anyone lose their life and doesn’t want to see businesses burned down.
Johnson says the blame should be on Governor Tony Evers for initially turning away the offer of federal help — accepting it only after the killings.
