There was some local high school athletic competition yesterday for the first time in well over 5-months, as the Two Rivers Cross Country Invite was held.
The 12-school meet was held without spectators as a precaution for COVID-19. Valders Coach Bill Dietrich said the athletes responded with some amazing times and very happy to compete again.
The Vikings captured the Boys division (42 pts) & had 3-runners among the top-8, including medalist Shane Griepentrog in 16:23, followed by Clay Taylor and Mitch Braun. Other top finishers from area schools saw Spencer Streich of Manitowoc Lutheran 12th, Brayden Yanda of Roncalli 13th, Gabe Ragsdale-Two Rivers 33rd and Daniel Benfield of Mishicot was 37th.
The Girls race was won by Oostburg with 54-points, followed by the host Raiders at 57. TR’s Anna Gallagher was meet medalist in a time of 19:02. Valders placed 4th, led by Andie Taylor who was 10th. Brooklyn Luebke of the Lancers wound up 3rd overall. Lydia Maternoski of the Jets was 22nd and Mishicot’s Brooke Grossheim wound up 24th.
