It’s been a trying time for parents, students and adults alike in getting used to the new norm of COVID-19.
Dr. Rebecca Schmitt, a pediatrician at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc, spoke with SeehaferNews.com about adapting to changes with respect to educational options.
“There are pros and cons to any of these options, whether it be online or blended or full in person,” she explained. “Things are ever changing and it’s important for parents, teachers and kids to try to be patient and be adaptable…there is no 100% perfect answer.”
Dr. Schmitt acknowledges there are many benefits to in-person learning, including “The normal academic curriculum…but it’s also important to have that building of social and emotional skills…healthy meals, prioritizing staying active…and mental health services.”
The HFM pediatrician says it’s important to keep in mind the recommendations from both the C-D-C and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Schmitt explains one of the most important things to remember during the current pandemic is for kids to have a very predictable, but flexible schedule in terms of sleep, nutrition and exercise outside of online time.
