Wisconsin politicians are condemning the violent protests and looting the past two nights following the Kenosha police shooting of Jacob Blake.
Governor Tony Evers said “the ability to exercise First Amendment rights is a critically important part of our democracy and the pursuit of justice. But there remains a line between peaceful assembly and what we saw last night that put individuals, families, and businesses in danger.”
U-S Senator Ron Johnson said, “I again ask for demonstrators to remain peaceful and also call on elected officials charged with the responsibility to maintain safety and security in Wisconsin to devote the manpower to do so.”
Governor Evers declared a state of emergency today (Tuesday) and will be increasing the National Guard’s presence at protests. Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says arson, theft and damage to property puts people’s lives in dangers – and undercuts the movement for change.
